Renowned Georgian opera singer Yano Alibegashvili has been honored with the Order of the Star of Italy (Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia), one of the country’s highest civilian distinctions. The award, presented on behalf of the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, recognizes Alibegashvili’s significant contribution to promoting Italian opera in Georgia.
The medal was formally presented by Italy’s Ambassador to Georgia, Massimiliano D’Antuono, during a ceremony attended by representatives of Georgia’s cultural community and government officials.
Georgia’s Ministry of Culture stated that Alibegashvili’s artistic career has played a big role in deepening cultural collaboration between Georgia and Italy, pointing to the universal value of opera as a shared artistic heritage.
In addition to the Italian honor, the Georgian government has also recognized Alibegashvili’s achievements. On the initiative of Culture Minister Tinatin Rukhadze and by the joint nomination of the Prime Minister and the Speaker of Parliament, president-elect Mikheil Kavelashvili awarded her the Georgian Medal of Honor for outstanding contributions to national culture.
