Georgian judoka, three-time world champion Tato Grigalashvili won a silver medal at the Paris Olympics.
In the final of the Olympics, the Georgian athlete lost to the Olympic champion, Japanese Takanori Nagase.
Grigalashvili’s silver is the first medal for the Georgian national team at the Olympic Games in Paris.
Grigalashvili faced Moldovan Mikhail Latishev in the first round. The Moldovan performed a prohibited trick in extra time, due to which the referees removed him from the tournament.
In the round of 16, the Georgian judoka defeated Vakhid Borchashvili, competing on behalf of Austria.
Grigalashvili met 28-year-old Tajik Somon Makhmadbekov in the quarter-finals and beat him with in extra time.
In the semi-finals, Tato Grigalashvili, who had two warnings, defeated Jeongwan Lee of South Korea in extra time with a waza-ari in the ninth minute of the match.
