Georgian Dream’s newly appointed foreign minister, Maka Botchorishvili, today emphasized the “importance” of the country’s partnership with the United States, stressing that the relationship must be meaningful and not exploited for speculation or manipulation.
In an interview with Imedi TV, Botchorishvili explained that strategic partnerships “must have substance.”
“When we speak of a strategic partnership, it must be based on real substance. If there are discussions about suspending ties, we need to clearly understand what exactly is being suspended,” the FM stated, referring to the Biden administration’s decision to suspend the strategic partnership mechanism with Georgia.
“Relations with the United States are incredibly valuable to us. We consider them a strategic partner, but we want this partnership to be genuine and not subject to speculation or manipulation. We know what a strategic partnership means, and we should focus on deepening our ties in areas such as free trade, visa-free travel, direct flights, and more,” she continued.
The Foreign Minister also expressed hope for an “opportunity to review the current state of relations” between the two nations “in the near future.”
