Georgia’s Ministry of Infrastructure has announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art multifunctional quality control laboratory in Tbilisi, designed to enhance oversight, testing and quality assurance across the country’s construction and infrastructure sectors. The initiative aims to strengthen Georgia’s infrastructure quality management system and ensure that construction materials and projects comply with modern international standards.
The Ministry stated that the new facility will serve as a comprehensive testing center, covering a wide range of materials and technical areas, including asphalt mixtures and pavement; concrete, binders and stone aggregates; reinforcement materials; soil and base layers; road operational parameters such as signage and markings; slope stability and safety monitoring; and materials used in water supply, sewage and electrical systems. It will also assess the condition and structural integrity of engineering constructions.
As part of the project’s preparatory phase, the Roads Department conducted a tender for the development of technical documentation and author supervision services. The contract was awarded to the company ‘Tashab’ whose specialists, along with representatives of the Roads Department, recently visited Germany to study best practices in infrastructure testing and control. During the visit, Georgian engineers attended both theoretical and practical sessions on the SKM measuring machine, a device used to evaluate road and tire adhesion.
