In a commanding performance at Tbilisi’s Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena on September 7, the Georgian national football team secured a resounding 3–0 victory over Bulgaria in the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup European qualifiers.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 30th minute when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia found the net with a precise shot from the left side of the box. Just before the break, Georgia doubled their advantage as Nika Gagnidze converted a clever through ball from Zuriko Davitashvili in stoppage time. The result was sealed in the 65th minute when Georges Mikautadze struck from close range, a goal that was confirmed after a VAR check, sending the home crowd into raptures.
The victory marked Georgia’s first win in the qualifying campaign, giving them three points after two matches and placing them level with Spain and Turkey in Group E. For Bulgaria, the defeat was their second consecutive 3–0 loss, having already fallen heavily to Spain, leaving them bottom of the group with no points and their World Cup hopes in serious doubt. With only the group winner guaranteed a direct spot at the 2026 World Cup and the runner-up entering the play-offs, this result has revived Georgia’s ambitions of making history and reaching the final stage of the tournament.
