The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has condemned the recent drone attack in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan, which left several civilians injured.
In an official statement, the Georgian Foreign Ministry stressed that any action violating international law and aimed at escalating tensions in the region is unacceptable.
“Considering the strong friendship and strategic partnership between Georgia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia expresses solidarity with fraternal Azerbaijan in this difficult situation,” the ministry said.
Azerbaijani media reported that drones launched from Iran struck infrastructure in the city of Nakhchivan. One of the drones reportedly hit the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, injuring two people, while another drone was reported flying over the nearby village of Shekarabad.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev described the incident as a “terrorist act” committed by Iran and stated that those responsible must be held accountable.
The attack has further heightened tensions between Iran and Azerbaijan, whose relations have periodically deteriorated in recent years amid geopolitical disputes and security concerns in the South Caucasus. Georgia, which maintains close political and economic ties with Azerbaijan, has repeatedly emphasized the importance of stability and security in the region.
