The Georgian government will allocate up to GEL 50 million in 2025 to purchase and process around 40,000–50,000 tons of surplus grapes as part of its vintage support program. the State Procurement Agency recently revealed that this is the part of the bigger efforts to stabilize the grape market and support local wine producers.
The state-owned Harvest Management Company will implement the program in partnership with up to 25 wineries across eight districts of Kakheti. The company plans to use rented facilities to manage grape collection and processing. As a result, it has requested exemption from the standard requirement for advance payment guarantees.
Grape processing and distillation services will take place at 20–25 factories within the region, with the agency saying that no alternative providers are available locally.
In total, the government has earmarked GEL 81 million for viticulture and winemaking in 2025, with the majority of that budget going toward subsidies for grape harvesting.
