The ruling Georgian Dream party has officially nominated Kakha Kaladze as its candidate for Tbilisi mayor in the upcoming local elections. The announcement was made during a high-profile event held at Mtatsminda Park, where Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze introduced Kaladze to the public.
“Today, we could have nominated just a good politician, a capable leader, or a dedicated patriot. But instead, we are presenting a true champion — both literally and figuratively,” said Kobakhidze, highlighting Kaladze’s dual legacy in sports and politics.
The Prime Minister praised Kaladze as someone who has brought significant victories to Georgia and expressed confidence in his ability to further develop and beautify the capital.
Kobakhidze claimed that Kaladze has the vision and experience to transform every neighborhood of Tbilisi — a goal aligned with the needs and expectations of its residents.
Georgian Dream founder and honorary chairman Bidzina Ivanishvili was also present at the event, underlining the significance of the nomination.
This marks Kaladze’s third consecutive run for the Tbilisi mayoral post. He was first elected in 2017 and re-elected in 2021.
