Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of the Georgian Dream party, claimed that President Salome Zurabishvili has entirely switched to the narrative of the radical opposition.
He evaluated the statement of the Administration of the President, according to which Salome Zurabishvili will veto the draft law related to the Central Election Commission if passed.
He stated that if the President vetoes the amendments, the majority will override it.
“Unfortunately, Salome Zurabishvili has entirely switched to the narrative of the radical opposition. Therefore, we are not surprised by her statement. If she vetoes the amendment, we will override the veto,” said Kobakhidze.
He spoke about the draft law related to the Central Election Commission and explained that the agreement of April 19 has been annulled, so there is no obligation to keep irrational regulations in the election code.
“The rule was absolutely irrational and unprecedented. You cannot tell me any country in the world where a similar rule is applied. There is simply no such country. This rule was established in accordance with the so-called April 19 agreement, it was a demand of the opposition and non-governmental organizations. I will repeat once again, this was an irrational, unprecedented rule that we included in the election code based on the April 19 agreement, however, as you know, the April 19 agreement has been annulled. Therefore, we have no obligation to leave irrational regulations in the election code. Accordingly, a rational, correct regulation will be established, fully compliant with international standards. This is the only purpose of this change”, said Kobakhidze.
