The director of the National Center for Disease Control, Amiran Gamkrelidze, stated the population should understand, the third dose will be necessary and the use of the fourth dose is not ruled out either.
Gamkrelidze spoke about Omicron and noted that the virus is most spread in Britain. He added, based on the latest information, Omikron is not characterized by high aggressiveness but the virus spreads rapidly and three times the risk of reinfection. As the South African Minister of Health said, despite the increase in the number of cases, there has been no increase in hospitalization and mortality in South Africa, which is somewhat a bit reassuring. Gamkrelidze noted that the case of Omicron has not been laboratory confirmed in Georgia yet.
“The first evidence from Pfizer was that antibodies produced in humans who have been vaccinated three times have a much greater ability to neutralize the coronavirus, and in particular against the Omicron strain, which proves that Pfizer has a protective ability. That is why there are more calls to use the booster widely,” Gamkrelidze said, adding that people should realize that the third dose will be necessary and the use of the fourth dose is not ruled out.
