The head of the National Center for Disease Control, Amiran Gamkrelidze, told the First Channel of Georgia that he recommends wearing a face mask indoors. He noted that the increase in cases of coronavirus is not only occurring in Georgia, it is happening globally, and in most European countries.
“This is mainly due to the circulation of new substrains of Omicron, the so-called BE-4, and BE-5, which are characterized by higher transmissibility than their predecessors but are not more severe. Yesterday, there were 631 new cases, today we have 756,” Gamkrelidze noted.
He added that there has been an increase in new cases for 2-3 weeks. As today’s data shows, 7-8% of Covid infected people need hospitalization.
