Based on the information of the party “Gakharia for Georgia”, it was not possible to reach an agreement with “Strong Georgia” coalition at this stage.
“We thank and once again confirm our respect for the President of Georgia, who has an important role in the current political processes in the country. It was on her initiative and invitation that we were involved in the political discussion that has been going on for these few days. Also, we thank Lelo for participating in the discussion. For our political team, the common national interests of the state and our citizens have always stood higher than any kind of party and/or personal interest. It was like this in the past – during our time in power, it is like this today – in the opposition, it will be like this in the future. Therefore, we put aside our party interests and gave up everything, instead the other party asked for a deadline for an internal coalition agreement. Unfortunately for us, it seems that the other side could not reach an internal consensus.
“The election time for making specific decisions is already limited, therefore, it was not possible to reach an agreement at this stage.
“The discussion started between us and Lelo shows us positive expectations regarding the cooperation in the Parliament of the next convocation.
“Our political goal is to remove GD from power without the return of the “National Movement”, ensure peace in the country and end polarization,” the statement said.
Mamuka Khazaradze says among the members of the Strong Georgia coalition, the positions on the unification with the Gakharia party are almost reconciled.
Khazaradze told journalists about this today, September 19, before the start of the third round of negotiations through the mediation of the President.
“We are waiting for the hour appointed by the president. From our side, the positions [in the team] are almost reconciled,” said Mamuka Khazaradze.
On the other hand, Gakharia’s party claims that Khazaradze cannot reach an agreement with his coalition partners. Strong Georgia coalition unites: “Lelo,” Citizens”, “For the People” and “Freedom Square”. It is also known that Aleko Elisashvili supports the unification with Gakharia.
“It seems that Lelo is unable to reach an agreement with its partners. Let’s wait and see,” said Anna Buchukuri, a member of Gakharia for Georgia party.
Negotiations on the unification between “Strong Georgia” and former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia’s party are being mediated by the president. Two rounds have already been held. Negotiations are expected to end today, September 19.
Giorgi Gakharia said some agreements were made last night, including on the problematic parity issue.
Mamuka Khazaradze noted that the parties are close to an agreement. He emphasized that the unresolved issues are not related to positions and election lists.
