Gakharia: Change must come peacefully through elections, not revolution

At the congress of the ‘Gakharia for Georgia’ party, Chairman Giorgi Gakharia emphasized that his party is preparing for all upcoming elections, underlining that government change must happen only through peaceful, democratic means.

“We are a political party accountable to every citizen of Georgia. Based on this responsibility, we are preparing for any upcoming elections,” he said.

Gakharia stressed that the current government has eroded public trust through disputed parliamentary elections and the imprisonment of political opponents. He stated that restoring justice requires new elections and the release of those held on politically motivated charges.

He criticized the ongoing polarization, rejecting both nationalist and elitist narratives. “One side claims a monopoly on national values, while the other claims to be the only Europeans. Both are unacceptable. Georgia’s future must not belong to either extreme,” Gakharia noted.

He called for pragmatic foreign policy, strengthening alliances, and maintaining principled dialogue — even with adversaries — in Georgia’s national interest.

“A radical or revolutionary path will only benefit Georgia’s enemies. Those who believe change must come peacefully — our doors are open to them,” Gakharia concluded.
