Georgian freestyle wrestler Geno Petriashvili (-125 kg) is an Olympic champion.
In the final of the competition, Petriashvili defeated the two-time world champion, 23-year-old Iranian athlete Amir Hossein Zare 10:9 and brought Georgia the fifth medal at the Paris Olympics.
The 30-year-old Georgian started performing at the Olympics yesterday. In the round of 16, he defeated Ukrainian Khotsianivski 11:0, in the quarterfinal he beat Polish Robert Baran 9:2, and in the semi-final he beat Giorgi Meshvildishvili, who played on behalf of Azerbaijan, 7:0.
Geno Petriashvili previously was the European champion in 2016 and 2020 and the world champion in 2017, 2018 and 2019, as well as a bronze medal winner at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and a silver medal owner at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
