Giorgi Kekelidze, the former head of the National Library, has been appointed as the creative director of Biblusi. He claimed that he received an offer from the director of Palitra Media Holding immediately after leaving the National Library.
“Today, the final meeting was held with the director of Palitra Media Holding, with whom we agreed on the plans we will have in the direction of the external activities of the company. This means a “literacy society”, which in turn means supplying rural libraries with books and computers; conducting different types of thematic lectures, seminars, the establishment of literary awards and many other things, which I will explain to you step by step”, said Kekelidze.
Giorgi Kekelidze said a few days ago that he met the Chairman of the Parliament, who told him that he should leave his position, “because 11 years is too much, despite the fact that he worked well. It is time for a renewal.” Kekelidze claimed the decision was “a great injustice”.
Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili stated that this was a personnel decision and he is not going to make additional comments and clarifications on the matter. When asked whether Kekelidze was released on political grounds, Papuashvili replied that “the National Library has nothing to do with politics, nor should it.”
