Former MP and ex-president of the Wrestling Federation, Luka Kurtanidze, was arrested after physically assaulting his ex-wife.
Luka Kurtanidze was arrested on charges of domestic violence and violation of the requirements and obligations outlined in a restraining order, under Articles 126¹ and 381¹ of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
Domestic violence is punishable by up to two years in prison, and if the person has committed it repeatedly — by one to three years of imprisonment. The second charge is also punishable by up to two years in prison.
Kurtanidze’s ex-wife, Khatuna Mikatsadze, has accused him of physical abuse. The incident took place in Kobuleti. Mikatsadze stated that Luka Kurtanidze subjected her to both verbal and physical abuse. She has visible injuries on her body.
She also explained that a restraining order had been issued against Eldar [Luka] Kurtanidze, which prohibited him from approaching her.
“This is not the second, third, fourth, or even fifth time. Every time I went to the police, they would tell me, ‘Since it’s Eldar Kurtanidze, let’s not ruin his life — let’s just categorize it as psychological abuse,’” said Mikatsadze.
“I hope that now, during this incident, since police officers witnessed the physical abuse themselves, they can no longer claim it was just psychological,” said Mikatsadze.
