Former diplomat Gela Charkviani has passed away at the age of 82, his daughter Teona Charkviani announced.
“Both we, his family and the country have lost an outstanding person,” she wrote.
Gela Charkviani was a publicist, writer, teacher, diplomat and TV presenter.
Charkviani completed his postgraduate studies in 1970 at the University of Michigan in the United States. According to him, the time spent in America has made fundamental changes in his worldview.
He has been awarded the Order of Merit (1998), the Presidential Order of Excellence (2011) and the Order of St. George (2013).
He was the father of famous musician, singer and writer Irakli Charkviani.
