For Georgia initiates draft law “On protection from the influence of the occupying country – the Russian Federation”

For Georgia party initiates the draft law “On protection from the influence of the occupying country – the Russian Federation”, the purpose of which is to reveal the sources of Russia’s hidden influence in this country, actions against the country’s interests and those who implement them. The parliamentary team of the For Georgia party announced this at a briefing in the parliament.

According to Beka Liluashvili, one of the leaders of the party, it is clear that the occupier is Russia, which is using propaganda against the country’s security and independence, and is damaging the European development path of the country through open or hidden means. As he noted, the authorities make not the occupying country, but Georgia’s strategic partners and friends, the target of the foreign agents law.

“The government is acting on the contrary, making the target of the law of foreign agents not the occupying country, but our strategic partners and friends; with this initiative, the government is trying to put an equal sign between friends and enemies.

“This is a change of the national, constitutional goal, losing of foreign orientation, which no government has the right to and will not have. Therefore, the parliamentary team of the For Georgia party, in accordance with our plan, initiates the draft law “On protection from the influence of the occupying country – the Russian Federation”, the purpose of which is to reveal the sources of Russia’s hidden influence in this country, actions against the country’s interests and those who implement them. Our bill calls everything by its name, and its purpose is the only proper purpose such legislation can have in this country—to call an enemy an enemy.

“Georgian Dream is trying to stop democratic development in the country in the name of the law, to lose the status of EU candidate and to falsify elections. For Georgia, receiving the status of a candidate for EU membership means peace and democratic development, and it means the end of informal governance. The Dream government tries to avoid this by political fraud and wants to put strategic partners and the occupier of the country on the same level. Have the courage to call Russia an enemy, not our country’s partners/friends, and support our initiative.

“Today we will start consulting with our colleagues from the opposition parties, so that they also support this initiative,” said Beka Liluashvili.
