“I can confirm that the Georgian authorities have replied to the letter sent by the European Commission in July. We are still in the process of assessing the letter and the Commission expects the Georgian authorities to take concrete steps to address all the issues raised in the Commission’s recommendations,” said European Commission Spokesperson Markus Lammert.
“Last week, the Georgian authorities took another step against democracy in the country by freezing the bank accounts of independent civil society organizations. This is yet another assault on fundamental rights and the weaponization of the justice system as a tool of repression. The EU urges the Georgian authorities to immediately reverse this decision,” said Markus Lammert.
