It must be said unequivocally that this was a really political decision, because we see that many airlines from many countries fly to Russia, but there has been no similar reaction or decision from the Ukrainian authorities in any other case, – this is how the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili responded the sanctions imposed on Georgian Airways by the authorities.
Levan Davitashvili sees traces of the Georgian opposition in this decision of the Ukrainian authorities and notes that the public knows well how close the Georgian opposition is to the Ukrainian authorities.
“It is sad to say that we have seen another very unfriendly decision from the Ukrainian authorities. We had such facts in previous cases, when several citizens of Georgia were sanctioned by the Ukrainian authorities. It is absolutely unacceptable, it does not fit into the standard of relations between the countries that Georgia and Ukraine have. I think that our oppositionists are also involved in this, because you know how closely some opposition groups are connected with the Ukrainian authorities, and perhaps this is the basis for this decision, when incorrect information is provided and, accordingly, decisions are made that only harm the relations between the two countries. As for the reaction, as in the previous case, I am sure that there will be an appropriate reaction from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” said Davitashvili.
In addition, when asked whether the Minister sees a problem in the fact that international sanctions may be imposed on Georgian Airways and as a result it will be able to fly only in the direction of Russia, Davitashvili said that such a thing will not happen.
“I would like to remind you that such a thing will not happen and, accordingly, there will be no problem for Georgia, Georgian Airways and Georgian passengers.
Georgia, the Civil Aviation Agency of Georgia, the Aviation Authority of Georgia, and private companies among them, act in accordance with international rules in all directions,” said Davitashvili.
