On May 20, at 10:11 AM local time, a mild earthquake occurred near the Georgia-Armenia border. The epicenter was located approximately 8 kilometers southeast of the village of Bavra, in Armenia’s Shirak Province, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Armenia’s Seismic Protection Service said the earthquake had a magnitude of 2.9 and was felt in several nearby villages including Bavra, Saragyugh, and Ashotsk, with an intensity of 2–3 on the MSK (Medvedev–Sponheuer–Karnik) scale.
Georgia’s National Seismic Monitoring Center confirmed the tremor occurred close to the border, with the epicenter about 3 kilometers inside Armenian territory.
No injuries or damage have been reported so far. The region is known for its seismic activity, and mild tremors are relatively common. Authorities continue to monitor the situation.
