Police have detained well-known doctor and academician Giorgi Chakhunashvili in Tbilisi.
Reportedly, officers of the criminal police spent several hours at Chakhunashvili’s residence before taking him into custody. The arrest is reportedly linked to the events that unfolded in the Georgian capital on October 4, during which protests turned violent.
A significant number of law enforcement officers were mobilized around the doctor’s home at the time of the operation. Several civil activists also gathered near the scene in solidarity.
Further details regarding the charges against Chakhunashvili have not yet been officially disclosed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
