Dmytro Kuleba to Georgians: You are a proud nation, fight and win – don’t let them steal your future

The Georgian government cloaked its creeping concessions to Russia with promises to avoid the so-called “Ukrainian scenario,” referring to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Tragically, what we are witnessing in Georgia today is precisely a Ukrainian scenario – but of a different kind. – the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, wrote on X.

“Georgia in November 2024 mirrors Ukraine in November 2013. Ivanishvili, like Yanukovych back then, is following the same playbook. Exactly 11 years ago, Ukraine’s Revolution of Dignity began in November 2013, when Yanukovych announced he would not sign the EU Association Agreement, sparking nationwide protests. Ukrainians stood up then, refusing to let their freedom be taken, and their fight changed the course of history”, says Kuleba.

He claims that today’s pattern for Georgia is clear: first, they take away freedom, then they start beating you, prosperity vanishes next, and then Russia consumes you.

“To those in the streets of Tbilisi: your fight today is about more than being pro-European or pro-Russian; it’s about the fundamental right to live freely. You are a proud nation. Fight and prevail – don’t let them steal your future,” Kuleba wrote.

For the record, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, announced at a briefing after the meeting of the parliamentary majority and the government team yesterday that Georgia would not put the issue of opening negotiations with the European Union on the agenda until the end of 2028. The Prime Minister added that Georgia will also refuse any budget grant from the European Union until the end of 2028. This statement caused anger and mass protests among the society.
