The Special Investigation Service reports that a criminal police detective has been arrested for domestic violence and threats to kill his wife.

The investigation revealed that the accused, identified as N.N., repeatedly subjected his wife to physical abuse and threats during their cohabitation. In the spring of 2024, in the town of Surami, the accused threatened his wife with death, pressed a firearm to her forehead, and physically assaulted her. The detective kept on the abuse and threats after this incident.

Following the victim’s report, the investigation was launched, with testimonies from the victim and her family members, as well as electronic data and incriminating evidence. After collecting the necessary evidence, the Special Investigation Service arrested the detective under a court order.

The prosecutor has charged the officer under the Georgian Criminal Code’s article dealing with domestic violence and threats to life. The investigation is still active.
