The US ambassador to Georgia, Kelly Degnan, was asked whether the US considers imposing sanctions on Davit Kezerashvili and how reliable the BBC’s information is for the US, she replied that this is a good example of how important investigative journalism, investigations by authorities are to provide the kind of information, both public source and non-publicly disclosed information, that form the basis for these kinds of measures.
“We’re going through a thorough process ourselves to assess it before we take any action. An investigation like the BBC’s is an important component. I would hope that the Georgian authorities have the opportunity to investigate their own allegations like this and this is a kind of information that can be a part of that,” noted Degnan.
