The Chair of the Committee, Irakli Beraia and MPs visited Giorgi Antsukhelidze Sergeant Academy.
MPs got cognizant of the infrastructure and material-technical base of the Academy and heard about the theoretical academic methods of the sergeants and the field exercises and training. As noted at the meeting with the leadership of the Academy, Germany has highly contributed in the development of the Academy and the Academy keeps closely cooperating with the partner states.
“The sergeant personnel plays the key role in the enhancement of the defense capacity of our country and the Academy is a leading unit in this process. It is noteworthy that Academy students are provided with the best learning conditions, exercises and training according to NATO standards. We intend to further hold meetings in the agencies appurtenant to the defense and security sphere to ensure the exercise of our oversight function and to appreciate and support our defense forces and glorious military men,” Beraia stated.
MPs laid the wreath on the Memorial to the Heroes fallen for Territorial Integrity. MPs in their visit were attended by the Deputy Defense Minister, Grigol Giorgadze.
The Sergeant Training School was established on March 25, 2003, with the support of Germany, and was providing the squad and platoon sergeants with training approximated to NATO standards. On November 15, 2013, the School was named after the National Hero, Giorgi Antsukhelidze and retitled into the Academic Center. On March 25, 2018, the Center was granted the status of the Sergeant Academy.
