The Tbilisi City Court has found Giorgi Bachiashvili, former director of the Co-Investment Fund, guilty of illegally crossing the Georgian border.
Judge Jvebe Nachkebia sentenced Bachiashvili to 4 years and 6 months in prison. The sentence was combined with the 11-year prison term he previously received in the case involving the embezzlement of cryptocurrency belonging to Georgian Dream founder Bidzina Ivanishvili.
Shota Karumidze, accused of transporting Bachiashvili to Armenia, received the same sentence of 4 years and 6 months.
The Prosecutor’s Office charged Bachiashvili under Article 344, Part 1 of the Criminal Code (illegal border crossing). Karumidze was charged under Article 25, Part 1 of Article 344 (assisting illegal border crossing), which carries a sentence of 3 to 5 years in prison.
Bachiashvili left Georgia before being sentenced to 11 years in prison for the cryptocurrency embezzlement case involving Ivanishvili.
