In Bidzina Ivanishvili’s native village of Chorvila, locals confronted the supporters of the opposition National Movement party. In the footage released by the media, it can be seen that eggs are thrown at them and they are verbally abused. There was also an attempt at a physical confrontation. Law enforcement officers were mobilized on the spot.
The incident happened at the entrance of the village. The participants of the march claim that after that the police blocked the road and did not allow them to enter the village. They hung the flags of Georgia and the European Union on the Chorvila signboard.
As Sopo Japaridze, a member of the National Movement and representative of 3rd President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, said, “Today we were convinced that the symbol of the Georgian Dream is an egg and a stone”.
“Yes, citizens who arrived peacefully were treated like this. Journalists were prevented from doing their professional work. I promise you, all this will definitely end in our country. Today, many people asked why Chorvila. Why? – Because this is the native village of the Russian oligarch. He decided to replace Georgians with Russians, to Russify Georgians. The Russian oligarch keeps the 3rd President of the country, who created this state, in captivity. The Russian oligarch is destroying our country every day. I am sure that in 2012 no one fought for this, for what is happening today: we are losing our freedom and European future. The Russian oligarch, together with his political tools, is doing everything to turn our country, Georgia, into Russia’s backyard, but he will fail. We see that we are restricted to move freely in our own country. I am sure it will be over very soon. Personally, I, Sopo Japaridze, will take a very big part. If I have to walk alone, I will be with each of our citizens and show them how much danger our country is facing. Yes, Chorvila, this beautiful place, will definitely be a European village”, Japaridze said.
