The Clooney Foundation for Justice (CFJ), co-founded by Amal and George Clooney, will monitor the court proceedings against Georgian journalist Mzia Amaglobeli through its TrialWatch initiative.
Amaglobeli is the founder of independent outlets Netgazeti and Batumelebi. Her detention has raised concerns among press freedom advocates both domestically and internationally. CFJ’s TrialWatch monitors judicial proceedings involving journalists and human rights defenders globally and provides legal aid in more than 40 countries. The foundation first announced its plans to monitor Amaglobeli’s trial in March.
“The trial of Georgian journalist Mzia Amaglobeli continues today as the court decides whether to keep her in pre-trial detention. TrialWatch will monitor the hearing,” CFJ stated.
The foundation added, “Earlier this morning, the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association took her case to the European Court of Human Rights—alleging multiple rights violations. The world is watching.”
