Giorgi Kalandarishvili, Chair of the Central Election Commission, held an emergency briefing regarding allegations of ballot-stuffing at Marneuli’s 69th Precinct Election Commission (PEC). He expressed concern over the reports and emphasized that if confirmed, such incidents should not undermine the integrity of the election process.
Kalandarishvili called for an immediate investigation by the Marneuli District Election Commission (DEC) and noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has opened a criminal case on the matter. He urged the Ministry to expedite the investigation to provide the public with timely, accurate information.
He also addressed misinformation regarding verification devices at polling stations, clarifying that these devices do not mute sound and serve to prevent unauthorized participation in the elections. Furthermore, he mentioned an incident at the 23rd polling station in Baghdati, where a voter damaged several verification machines, but voting continued with other functioning machines.
Kalandarishvili committed to sharing further information about both the Marneuli incident and the DEC’s decisions, stressing the importance of accurate reporting on the election process.
