Borrell: Hungarian PM will not be representing the EU during his visit to Georgia

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will not be representing the European Union during his visit to Georgia, –  Agence France-Presse reports the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security, Josep Borrell, as saying in an interview with the Spanish public radio RNE.

“Whatever Mr. Orban says during his visit to Georgia, he does not represent the European Union. The president elected by the rotation of the Union has no authority in foreign policy,” Borrell said.

For the record, Viktor Orban is coming to Georgia today on an official visit.

Irakli Kobakhidze and Viktor Orban

The Hungarian Prime Minister on Saturday congratulated his Georgian counterpart Irakli Kobakhidze and the Georgian Dream party on their “overwhelming victory” in the parliamentary elections.

“Congratulations to Irakli Kobakhidze and the Georgian Dream party on their overwhelming victory at the parliamentary elections. The people of Georgia know what is best for their country, and made their voice heard today”, Orbán said in a social media message.
