Schools in the Belarusian capital, Minsk, have been instructed by the city administration to refrain from using the image of Santa Claus during New Year’s celebrations. Additionally, English-language New Year’s songs, such as “Jingle Bells,” are banned, Belsat.eu reports, citing Euroradio, and publishing a letter sent to schools:
“Order from the city administration
“Dear class teachers, Santa Claus and English Christmas songs (such as Jingle Bells) are prohibited at events. We encourage the use of our well-known songs and the heroes from our fairy tales. The focus should be on Belarusian traditions. The same applies to New Year’s decorations!” – The document cited by the publication states.
