Amiran Gamkrelidze, the Head of the National Center for Disease Control, was vaccinated with a booster dose of Pfizer vaccine today, November 12.
Gamkrelidze noted he got a full shot of Sinopharm in May.
“I got vaccinated with Pfizer on purpose to convince people- there are a lot of rumors on social media that the Pfizer in the country has expired and so on. I would like to state that in August, it was a decision of Pfizer and the US Food and Drug Administration that Pfizer, which was administered in the first half of the year, was allowed a six-month Pfizer term. As we know, Pfizer is stored at a temperature of -60 to -90 degrees. It was after thawing that it could be kept at normal temperature for five days. In August, Pfizer itself and regulators changed the recommendations, and therefore Pfizer has nine months from its release if stored at -60 to -90 degrees,” Gamkrelidze said.
He noted that today there are about 900,000 doses of Pfizer in the country. Most of them, about 700,000 doses, have a deadline until the end of March. Some has until the end of February and the end of January. Gamkrelidze added the doses are sufficient.
