The hundreds of protesters who stayed the night on Rustaveli Avenue outside Georgia’s parliament building, enduring cold and rain to demand the withdrawal of the foreign agents bill, have been enclosed by thousands of special force police this morning, blocking the major roads around Parliament to allow the MPs in to debate the law.
Several police in masks brutally attacked a number of peaceful protesters, provoked by words, and were caught on camera doing so.
Crowds are at the gates of Parliament shouting “Pigs! Pigs!”
There is a sense of elation, fear and continued determination to overthrow this foreign agents’ law and keep Georgia on its European path.
One respondent told Mtavari Arkhi: “Sadly, this reminds me of April 9th [1989].”
