30 arrested in anti-corruption operation across 12 criminal cases

Georgia’s State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) announced that 30 individuals have been arrested and charged with corruption-related crimes following a large-scale anti-corruption operation conducted in several regions of the country.

The announcement was made during a briefing by Emzar Gagnidze, Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency within the SSSG.

Gagnidze started that the arrests are linked to 12 separate criminal cases uncovered during the operation.

Among those detained are a member of the Akhmeta Municipality Council, an employee of the Emergency Situations Management Service under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, two specialists from Martvili Municipality City Hall, representatives of various municipal administrations, and the former chairman of the Senaki Municipality Council, along with other individuals.

Gagnidze stated that the Anti-Corruption Agency will continue active efforts to identify and prevent corruption offenses.

“The Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service will continue to work to detect and prevent all types of corruption crimes until we achieve the stated goal of the Georgian state — for Georgia to become one of the leading countries in the world with a low level of corruption,” he said.

Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the specific charges in the individual cases.
