Russian interests section warns citizens of possible entry refusals when traveling to Georgia

Swiss flag.

The Interests Section of the Russian Federation at the Swiss Embassy in Tbilisi has issued a warning to Russian citizens planning to travel to Georgia, mentioning increased uncertainty at border crossings.

In an official statement, the Interests Section said it has observed a rise in cases where Russian nationals are denied entry to Georgia based on information recorded in their passports, particularly the listed place of birth. The notice states that refusals have reportedly affected individuals whose documents indicate birth in the former Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, the Abkhaz Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, South Ossetia, Crimea, the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, as well as the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.

The Russian Interests Section stressed that the actions of Georgian border authorities have made travel outcomes less predictable for Russian visitors. Against this backdrop, it urged Russian citizens to thoroughly assess all circumstances and potential risks before deciding to travel to Georgia for tourism or other purposes.

The statement did not specify the number of cases involved but emphasized the need for caution in the middle of what it described as growing uncertainty at the border.
