The U.S. Embassy in Georgia is hosting Jonathan Askonas, Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of State, who is visiting the country to discuss Georgia’s potential role in supporting the “Trump International Peace and Prosperity Route” (TRIPP). The transport corridor emerged from a U.S.-mediated peace summit held on August 8 between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
As part of his visit, Dr. Askonas toured the Sadakhlo Motor Vehicle customs checkpoint earlier today. The construction and provision of equipment for the checkpoint were largely supported by the United States, emphasizing ongoing cooperation in strengthening regional transit and border infrastructure.
Throughout his stay, Askonas is scheduled to meet with representatives of Georgia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government Administration, and several international financial institutions to further discuss TRIPP and Georgia’s potential contributions to the project.
