The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, has arrived in Georgia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Alain Berset was met at Tbilisi Shota Rustaveli International Airport by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lasha Darsalia.
Within the framework of the visit, Alain Berset will hold meetings with the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, the Chairman of the Parliament – Shalva Papuashvili, the President-elect – Mikheil Kavelashvili, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs – Maka Bochorishvili.
“Within the framework of the visit, Alain Berset will arrive in a village adjacent to the occupation line and get acquainted with the current situation on the ground. The official visit of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe to Georgia will be held on December 17-21,” reads the information released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Secretary General welcomes yesterday’s release of Nika Gvaramia and Aleko Elisashvili, whom he plans to meet with other members of the opposition and civil society. He also reaffirms his support for Georgia’s European aspirations.
