Georgian citizens have blocked the capital’s central Rustaveli Avenue, where a rally quickly built up following the Prime Minister’s announcement.
Those gathered near the legislative body are protesting the decision made by the Government of Georgia on suspension of the EU integration.
A rally was also held in front of the central office of Georgian Dream, from where the participants marched towards Rustaveli Avenue and joined the rally in front of parliament.
As the participants of the rally say, they will not allow Georgian Dream to prevent Georgia’s European future.
At the protest, shouts are heard: “Slaves”; “Russians”; “Go!”
Demonstrations in Tbilisi and several cities were quickly put into action after the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, announced at a briefing after the meeting of the parliamentary majority and the government team that Georgia would not put the issue of opening negotiations with the European Union on the agenda until the end of 2028. The Prime Minister added that Georgia will also refuse any budget grant from the European Union until the end of 2028.
