President Salome Zurabishvili has criticized the removal of classic Georgian literary works from the 2025 national exams. In a statement published on social media, Zurabishvili mentions the implications of the decision.
“When you remove Ilia’s Bednieri Eri, Pasukhis Pasukhi, Gandegili, Achrdili and Otaraant Kvrivi, the works of Paolo Iashvili and Polikarpe Kakabadze in their entirety, or Vazha’s Patriotism and Cosmopolitanism from the 2025 unified national exams program, it is clear what national and patriotic idea it is governed by,” Zurabishvili stated.
The Ministry of Education responded, saying that the new program for the 2025 exam is exclusively based on the mandatory literature of the national curriculum, clarifying that the removal of certain works does not mean they will no longer be taught in schools.
