UK: Violations outlined in the OSCE/ODIHR preliminary conclusions are against int’l standards

The United Kingdom supports the preliminary conclusions of the OSCE/ODIHR regarding the parliamentary elections held in Georgia on October 26, – said Minister of European and American Affairs of the United Kingdom, Stephen Doughty.

He claimed that the report reflects abuse of administrative resources, a highly polarized election environment, as well as voter intimidation and coercion.

“Along with the impact of the Georgian law on the transparency of foreign influence on civil society, these are not the actions of an open, democratic society, and are against international standards,” the statement said.

Doughty insisted that the Georgian authorities should investigate all violations.

“The government of Georgia should investigate all violations and change the reduced commitment to democracy. We will closely monitor this together with our international partners and are ready to support,” the statement said.
