China does not support Georgia’s resolution on IDPs in the UN

Georgia’s new strategic partner, China, abstained from participating in the UN resolution “On the status of internally displaced persons and refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia and Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia, Georgia” and therefore did not support it.

The vote on the resolution was held on June 4, in New York, within the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

The resolution was initiated by 64 countries of Georgia and different regions of the world. This year, 103 states supported the resolution (last year, 100 states supported it), which is the highest number recorded so far.

For the first time in history, the neighboring state of Armenia supported the resolution.

9 states voted against the resolution, and 52 abstained, including Iran.
