For Georgia: Gov’t is lying when it draws parallels between violent storm of June 20 and peaceful demonstrations taking place today

The Government is lying when it draws parallels between the violent storm of June 20 and the peaceful protests taking place today, it was mentioned in the statement issued by the party “Gakharia for Georgia”.

As the party notes, it is unacceptable for “Dream” to use the Strasbourg decision to justify the use of illegitimate force against peaceful protesters.

“Dream” is trying to use yesterday’s decision of Strasbourg regarding June 20, 2019 to legitimize the violence against today’s peaceful protesters, young people.

The authorities are lying when they draw parallels between the violent storming of June 20 and the peaceful protests taking place today. The Strasbourg court drew a clear line between violent protest and peaceful protest. It is unacceptable for “Dream” to use the decision of Strasbourg to justify the use of illegitimate force against peaceful protesters, young people.

At the same time, the Government provokes civil strife and attacks the citizens of Georgia – abuses them both physically and psychologically.

We call on all politicians, media and other actors to have a calm, reasonable response to the provocations of the “Dream”, not to allow further radicalization and to lead the country peacefully to the elections,” the statement said.
