Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze is currently engaged in discussions with “City Box” to dismantle public toilets that were placed by the company at 36 locations in the capital in 2017-2018. According to Kaladze, these facilities have suffered damage from vandalism, and despite the company’s repeated repair efforts, most of them remain non-functional and are out of sync with the upgraded infrastructure in Tbilisi.
“Several years ago, Tbilisi City Hall took into account the public demand, as well as the need coming from tourist infrastructure in the capital, and public toilets were installed at 36 locations in the city by the company ‘City Box,’ selected based on a tender. As it is clear from the statements presented by the company and the monitoring carried out by us, the restrooms have been repeatedly damaged as a result of vandalism. Due to these facts, ‘City Box’ has submitted approximately 150 applications to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Even though the company has repeatedly restored the damaged retreats, due to frequent vandalism, it has become impossible for them to function properly. In addition, modern infrastructure has been arranged by the City Hall in the mentioned places, with which the damaged retreats are completely incompatible. Taking this into account, negotiations are underway with the company on the issue of their dismantling and removal from the mentioned locations,” Mayor Kakha Kaladze told BM.ge.
