PM: Russia’s invasion undermines modern values, Georgia firmly stands by a friendly country & free world

Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili delivered a speech at the reception dedicated to the International Culture Festival – “Europalia” and Georgia’s Independence Day in Belgium.

The head of the government spoke about the Russia-Ukraine war and noted that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine undermines modern values and the fundamental principles of the international order based on rules. He added that Georgia firmly stands by the friendly country.

“Our meeting is taking place at a critical moment in the history of Europe. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine undermines modern values and fundamental principles of the rules-based international order. Georgia firmly stands by our friendly country and the free world, with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. The free world today faces serious global challenges. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was the beginning of a war that affects us all. During the last thirty years, Georgia very often experienced Russian aggression.

“We had a full-scale war with Russia 15 years ago. Our country has suffered huge human losses and 20% of our territory is still occupied by the Russian army.  I would like to thank you for being here today and share with you the strong belief of Georgians that achieving the goal of many generations of Georgians – to take our rightful place in the family of European democratic nations, is not only in the interest of Georgia, but will also make this family stronger and even more united,” said the Prime Minister.
