Polish MEP Anna Fotyga underlined that 29 years have passed since the fall of Sokhumi, the capital city of the currently Russian-occupied region of Abkhazia. She also stated that Russia will be held accountable for its crimes in occupied territories.

“29 years ago Sokhumi, Georgia, fell to Russian-provoked and backed forces in Abkhazia, followed by ethnic-cleansing, and massacres – forcefully displacing more than 250 thousand people from their homes,” the MEP tweeted.

“Today, the Ukrainian heroic struggle for freedom created a chance to defeat Russian imperialistic goals,” Fotyga added.

“Russian aggression in Ukraine is the consequence of a ‘no punishment’ and concessions policy towards Russia,” Fotyga remarked in another tweet.

The MEP highlighted that “Russia will pay for its war crimes and will be pushed back from Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova. Justice will prevail once Russia is defeated, and all the occupied territories will be fully liberated.”
