The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, published a post on the social network on the day of the fall of Sukhumi, noting that from this day on, the unification of Georgia is the main goal of each Georgian.
“The fall of Sukhumi on September 27, 1993 was a tragic day in our history. The war displaced hundreds of thousands of people in their homeland and, most sadly, cost the lives of many of our fellow citizens. Once again, I express my condolences to their family members and relatives. From this day forward, the unification of Georgia is the main goal of each of us, and it is based on our belief that living in a united, strong, developed country is the best prospect for our people. We also believe, and we have repeatedly proved it by our actions, that the way to this goal is only through the peace process, dialogue and cooperation. The future belongs to the unity, peace and prosperity of Abkhazians and Georgians,” wrote Garibashvili.
The state flag has been lowered on the building of Government Administration in connection with the 29th anniversary of the fall of Sukhumi and in order to commemorate the victims of the war for Abkhazia.
The state flag has been lowered nationwide on all administrative buildings of Georgia.
