“If Georgian Dream doesn’t understand what de-oligarchization means, which is mentioned in the proposal of the European Commission, I will help them to understand – it means “de-Bidzinization” or “de-Ivanishvilization” of Georgia,” European parliamentarian Rasa Juknevičienė said in her speech in the European Parliament.
The MEP noted that she sees optimistic efforts from the civil society.
“Georgian people deserve our support and this is a really important moment, but Georgia seems to be in the captivity of one person. If Georgian Dream doesn’t understand what de-oligarchization means, which is mentioned in the proposal of the European Commission, I will help them to understand – it means “de-Bidzinization” or “de-Ivanishvilization” of Georgia. So this is what Georgians need to stop being hostages of one person. We have adopted a resolution that mentions sanctions and we should think about it.
“So I think we should help the country to get rid of such, frankly, Kremlin-like policies. My last issue concerns the fact that we should rely on civil society. We are seeing efforts and people are organizing the biggest protests. I see optimistic efforts from civil society in this country, and I think they will do their job, and I hope that we will be together with these people in the EU family,” said Juknevičienė.
