“The only and most important thing the European Union expects from us today is the government to show at least willingness and political will to carry out democratic reforms,” Natia Mezvrishvili, Deputy Chairman of the party ‘For Georgia,’ stated at a briefing.
She claimed that a critically important and necessary condition for Georgia’s European perspective to be saved in the remaining short time is the immediate commitment of the authorities to carry out reforms.
“We’d like to express a clear position on what is critically important and necessary today in order to save Georgia ‘s European perspective in the short time left.
“These are: reforms, reforms and only reforms!
“It’s a fact that the recent policy of the Dream has put Georgia’s European and free future under threat. Protests are vital to express a civic position and our voters have complete freedom in this regard. At the same time, we must understand that the rallies are not enough and the President of Georgia is well aware of this.
“It is unacceptable to shift the burden of saving the European perspective only to the citizens of Georgia, who have repeatedly proved to Europe that Europe is a historic choice for the citizens of Georgia, and they know this very well in the European Union.
“The European Union today expects from us the only and most important thing, the government to express at least the readiness and political will to carry out democratic reforms. Therefore, we call on the dream to come to its senses and immediately show a political commitment to reforms. Reforms that ensure free and democratic elections in 2024, including elections free from corruption and systemic irregularities, and a real distribution of power after the elections, an independent judiciary that will ultimately prevent authoritarianism and save democracy in our country, thus saving Georgia ‘s European perspective,” Natia Mezvrishvili said.
