“Providing that the Czech Republic is assuming the CoE presidency as of the second half of 2022, we do hope for further support, and that Georgia will soon acquire the status of a candidate state,” said Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili after the meeting with the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Miloš Vystrčil.
Papuashvili noted that at the meeting with his Czech counterpart, he spoke of the long-standing friendly and productive cooperation between the two countries, noting that sharing the experience of the Czech Republic and their support will be of the utmost value for Georgia on its EU integration path.
“At the meeting, we discussed the long-standing friendly and productive cooperation in various directions between our countries. We highly appreciate the support of the Czech Republic to the sovereignty, territorial integrity of Georgia, non-recognition policy, and the EU aspirations of our country. We also are extremely grateful for the activity of the Czech Development Agency in Georgia, which eagerly facilitates the implementation of the reforms in various sectors and the European integration process of Georgia. The current visit served by Mr. Vystrčil is important in many respects since the visit envisages the official meetings, as well as the joint sitting of the Economic Commission and the attendance at the Business Forums in Tbilisi and Batumi. We hope that hereof events will lead to the significant outcomes and advantages for our countries and citizens. We underlined the importance of the enhancement of our Parliamentary links, including at the level of the Friendship Groups and the sector Committees. Sharing the experience of the Czech Republic and their support will be of the utmost value for us along with the progress of Georgia on the EU integration path,” noted Papuashvili.
The situation in the region and the Russian aggression against Ukraine were the key issues on the agenda of the meeting.
“We discussed the complicated situation in the region and the challenges that the region encounters in general. Naturally, we touched upon the Russian aggression against Ukraine and reaffirmed our solidarity to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,” Papuashvili stated. “In succession to the EU membership application, it is crucial to boost the collaboration between our Parliaments on the hereof issues. We highly value the fact that the Czech Republic has always been a strong supporter of the European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Georgia. Providing that the Czech Republic is assuming the CoE presidency as of the second half of 2022, we do hope for further support and Georgia will soon acquire the status of a candidate state. We acknowledge how complicated and protracted can the EU membership process can be but we are utterly committed to the intensive cooperation and enhancement of the European future of Georgia,” stated the Speaker of the Parliament.
